Property Protection & Winter Roof Replacement on Dressler Drive

Location: Dressler Drive, Covington, VA 24426 Service Provided: Shingle Roof Replacement Branch: Roanoke, VA

Project Story

With winter approaching, the homeowner of this property on Dressler Drive was concerned about his 20-year-old roof. He had noticed missing shingles and, more worryingly, felt "soft spots" when walking the roof—a clear sign of underlying decking issues.‍While the priority was getting the home watertight before the snow fell, the homeowner also wanted to ensure the rest of his property—including his HVAC unit and landscaping—remained undamaged during the tear-off process. Our Roanoke team was the right choice for the job, combining speed, technical skill, and respect for the job site.‍

Respecting the Property: Our Protection Process

A roof replacement is a major construction project, but it shouldn't look like a disaster zone. As seen in this project, we take extra measures to protect the home’s exterior features.‍For this Dressler Drive project, our site preparation included:

  • HVAC & Landscaping Protection: We utilized heavy-duty tarps to "tent" and cover the exterior HVAC unit and nearby shrubs. This prevents nails, old shingles, and debris from falling into the delicate fan blades of the AC unit or crushing the landscaping.
  • Debris Management: We set up a catch-all tarp system from the roof edge down to the ground to funnel old shingles directly into our cleanup zone, keeping the yard cleaner throughout the day.
  • Staging Materials: New materials, including the Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration Shingles and OSB decking, were staged neatly on the driveway to maintain clear access.

The Roofing Solution

Once the property was secured, we proceeded with the full replacement to address the soft spots and winterize the home.‍The system installed included:

  • Premium Shingles: Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration in the color Teak.
  • Winter Defense: We installed Cenguard Ice & Water Shield and Cenguard Synthetic Underlayment  to create a watertight barrier against driving rain and ice dams.
  • Decking Repair: We removed the old material to access the deck, replacing the rotted wood causing the "soft spots" with fresh OSB sheathing.
