Our Winchester roofing team recently visited a new-build project on Whiskey Mountain Trail in Berkeley, WV, where the homeowner requested a labor-only installation for a full shingle roof. The customer already had all roofing materials delivered to the site and needed a professional team to complete the installation safely and correctly on this steep, multi-section home.
This home is a brand-new build tucked into the wooded areas surrounding Berkeley Springs, where steep rooflines and multiple elevations can make installation more complex. The structure includes several high-pitch gables and a combination of walkable and steep facets, making professional labor especially important for installing shingles, flashing, and transitions accurately.
Because the home is still under construction, the roof deck was fully exposed and ready for installation, with chimney areas and porch sections clearly visible in the inspection photos. The build includes both standard shingle roofing and small porch sections that will receive metal roofing once the rest of the materials are available.
The labor-only work order includes:
• Installation of shingles on the main house
• Flashing the chimney
• “Cut-in” flashing at brick or vertical wall transitions
• Applying ice and water shield or double-layer synthetic underlayment on the 3/12 porch roofs (if materials are available)
• Completing both steep-pitch and walkable sections, depending on roof area
According to the work order, the roof includes a mix of 8/12 to 15/12 steep sections and walkable areas, which require different labor categories and safety setups. The job is estimated at 27.53 squares of steep roofing and 7.62 squares of walkable roofing, making it a sizable installation for a new-build home in the Berkeley Springs region.
Many new homes in the Berkeley Springs area—especially along rural mountain roads like Whiskey Mountain Trail—feature steep-slope architectural designs that benefit from experienced roofing crews. Our team is equipped to handle complex rooflines, multiple dormers, heavy gable structures, and custom flashing needs often seen in high-end cabin and woodland builds throughout Morgan County.
Whether homeowners need full-service roofing with materials supplied or labor-only installation for new construction, our Winchester branch provides precise, code-compliant installation across Berkeley, Hedgesville, Great Cacapon, and surrounding mountain communities.
